Description
AIM 70/88 is a low melting alloy with a melting point of 70–88°C. It's made up of bismuth, cadmium, lead, and tin. AIM 70/88 is used for many of the same applications as AIM 70, but where less growth is required. Here are some technical details for AIM 70: *Melting temperature: 70°C (158°F) *Density: 9.58 gr/cm3 (.3458 lbs/in3) *Electrical conductivity: 4.00% IACS *Typical use: Hospital radiation shields Other low melting alloys include: *SAFE Metal: 160–190°F (71–88°C) *AIM 71 88: Used for many of the same applications as AIM 70, but where less growth is required *AIM 138 170: Used for fusible mandrels for electroforming, and proof casting large dies and molds Low melting alloys are made up of a mixture of pure metals. The different sizes of atoms in an alloy make their arrangement less regular than a pure metal. This makes the bonds between the atoms weaker and lower melting point.
