Description
Cerrosafe is a low-melting point alloy made of bismuth, lead, tin, and cadmium. It melts between 158 °F (70 °C) and 190 °F (88 °C). Cerrosafe is a non-eutectic alloy with a yield temperature of 162.5 °F. Cerrosafe is used to accurately proof-cast cavities such as molds, gun chambers, and forging dies. It should be melted in a clean, iron ladle. The source of heat should be removed as soon as the alloy is completely melted, at which time it is ready to pour. The solidified casting should be removed from the chamber before, or when, it cools to room temperature. Cerrosafe has a density of .341 lbs./In3 (or 9.4 g/cc). It shrinks initially, then grows.
