COBALT BASED ALLOY UNS R31537 ROUND BAR UNS R31537 is a cobalt chrome molybdenum alloy. It's used in medical and surgical devices that require high fatigue strength, such as orthopedic total joint replacement. The chemical range for UNS R31537 is: Carbon: Minimum 0.14 Chromium: Minimum 26.0, maximum 30.0 Cobalt: Balance Iron: Minimum 0.75 Cobalt chrome is harder than stainless steel, titanium, and all precious metals including platinum, gold, and silver. It's not 100% scratch proof like tungsten carbide. Cobalt chrome has two possible crystalline structures: Face centered cubic (FCC) Close packed hexagonal (CPH) Cobalt is the main constituent element in Co-Cr-Mo alloys, which gives the alloy elastic modulus, strength, and hardness.
