Description
Copper-cobalt-beryllium alloy UNS C17540 is available in plate, sheet, strip, and roller bar. It contains 0.40–0.70% beryllium and 0.80–1.3% cobalt. UNS C17540 is a high-strength copper-nickel-beryllium alloy with good electrical and thermal conductivity. It has excellent corrosion and wear resistance. Here are some properties of copper-cobalt-beryllium alloys: *Strength: Moderate strength *Hardness: Excellent hardness *Conductivity: About 50% IACS conductivity *Corrosion resistance: Good to excellent corrosion resistance *Workability: Excellent cold workability, good hot formability Copper-cobalt-beryllium alloys are available in mill hardened tempers and heat treatable and ductile tempers. Beryllium copper is used in a variety of applications, including: Electronic connectors, Telecommunications products, Computer components, Small springs. Beryllium copper has a solid melting point of 1590 °F (866 °C) and a liquid melting point of 1800 °F (982 °C). It has a thermal conductivity of 62 Btu/h-ft-°F (107 W/m-K), which is 3–5 times higher than tool steel. However, like many industrial materials, copper beryllium may present a health risk if handled improperly. The inhalation of dusts, fumes, or mists containing beryllium can cause a serious lung condition in some individuals.
